About ALex

The ‘longer’ story

Bio

Hi I’m Alex

I am a millennial man, born in London and of Caribbean descent.

In my early twenties, I spent most of my time traveling.

This is important because it informs how I approach my life: curiously.

On my travels, I taught and learned. I explored and experienced. I grew into myself in ways only traveling can make you.

I worked as a journalist for five years and subsequently went on to train as a health coach specialising in men’s wellbeing with the College of Naturopathic Medicine, and then went on to train as a therapist with the National College of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy to help people find the words to explain how we are feeling, healing, and growing into the people we so earnestly yearn to become.

I am also a school counsellor working with 11-16 year old boys to help them become more integrated men.

In becoming me I had to understand what it truly meant to be a man who experienced freedom. In this journey, I realised that we rarely do. We are obsessed with judgment, worried about things we can’t control, and constantly distracted by what we think others think about us.

I am an avid Harry Potter fan - his story represents the othering of us, and I use the themes specifically in most of what I do, therapeutically.

My interest in psychology stems from my personal experience growing up as a Black man in the UK navigating complex relationships. I started The Hard Part Podcast and founded Alex Holmes Psychotherapy and Coaching (ACHP) and my production company Recover Well Audio as a way to communicate my ideas by combining books, coaching, therapy and podcasting with mental and emotional well-being.

I look forward to journeying with you as we travel through this moment together. If you’re interested in working with me or developing further, then meet me where you are. Let’s get to it.
