Words That Work: What Are You Reading? I’ve Just Finished This.
If you’ve known me long enough, you’ll know that one of my favorite questions to ask people is: What are you currently reading?
Books have a way of cracking us open. They spark ideas, challenge our thinking, and, when done right, they make us feel less alone in the chaos of life.
This week, I want to share what’s on my reading list and why it matters for those of us working in writing, thought leadership, and mental well-being.
📚 This Week’s Read: My Name Isn’t Joe by James Thomas
This novel hit me hard.
It’s a story about modern loneliness and the quiet desperation so many of us feel but rarely talk about. The protagonist, Joseph Bogart, is a 30-something man burdened by emotional baggage, past relationships, and a world that doesn’t quite make sense to him.
It’s sharp. It’s darkly funny. And at times, painfully real.
As someone who works at the intersection of mental health and storytelling, this book was a reminder of something I see all too often:
Loneliness isn’t just a personal struggle, it’s a public health crisis, especially for men.
We’re wired for connection. When that connection is missing, everything suffers, our well-being, our work, and yes, even our ability to write and share ideas that matter.
📖 The Reading List
This year, I’m thinking of bringing back the Reading List…a curated collection of books (fiction and non-fiction) exploring men’s mental health, relationships, and personal growth.
If you have a recommendation, hit reply. I’d love to hear what’s been on your nightstand.
Question for You: What Are You Reading?
Whether it’s something inspiring, thought-provoking, or just pure escapism. What book are you hooked on right now?
Reply and let me know. I might feature your pick in an upcoming issue.
🖊️ A Note on Writing & Thought Leadership
The stories we consume shape the stories we tell.

As a ghostwriter for impact-driven leaders, I help people like you craft books, articles, and content that elevate your message and expand your influence, without adding more stress to your already full plate.
If you’re thinking about a book, an article series, or a content strategy that works, let’s talk.
📌 Final Thought
Books have the power to connect us, challenge us, and remind us we’re not alone. Whether it’s My Name Isn’t Joe or another story that speaks to you, carve out time this week to read, reflect, and engage with ideas that move you.
Here’s to better words, bigger impact, and less stress.
