About

Alex Holmes

Alex is a philosopher-writer, therapist, and coach.

His professional life began as a journalist working across general news, entertainment, and wellbeing. It was there he began to ask questions about health and started a column called MenTalk Health which brought men into sharing their stories of health.

During the pandemic, he trained as a coach and hypnotherapist.

He is the founder of the Time To Talk Project, a community-building mental health project that seeks to bring people together through conversation, community, and connection.

He is bringing poetics to manhood through existentialism and stoicism, and via therapy, group work, and his approach to mental health care in the communities people hold dear.

Through his podcast, Alex teaches practical wisdom through the lens of existential and stoic philosophy, mental health, and masculinity.

By embracing this approach to life, we can create space for healing, clarity, and a deeper connection with ourselves.

He empowers them to confront the deep-seated emotions, traumas, and societal expectations that often manifest as burnout, depression, or destructive behaviours.

Alex’s practice focuses on fostering breakthroughs in personal, emotional, and professional arenas. As a men’s mental health advocate, he speaks openly about the silent crisis men face: the cultural conditioning that equates vulnerability with weakness. This silence has resulted in widespread emotional suppression, leading to negative outcomes like addiction, aggression, depression, and suicide.

By creating spaces where men feel safe to express their emotions and confront their trauma, Alex is dismantling the harmful stereotypes that prevent men from seeking help. His work emphasises that healing trauma not only benefits individuals but also ripples out to families, communities, and workplaces.

When men embrace vulnerability and face their emotional truths, they become more present in their relationships, their professional lives, and within themselves.

Existentialism, stoicism, and minimalism, as Alex teaches, are not just about owning less—it’s about living with intention and clarity. In mental health, this means shedding what no longer serves you, whether that’s outdated beliefs, emotional scars, or societal pressures, and making room for growth, peace, and a more fulfilling life.
